Limoges Favorite doll, very rare to find painted as clown.
The clown features make the doll very expressive and unique. They are not very well painted, but it should not be forgotten that doll painters rarely had to paint like this and were only trained/experienced with painting ''normal'' dolls and their features with fine paint. I have only seen one other example before offered for sale.
45 cm tall, made in France ca. 1910. His head is free of any damage. His eyes were likely replaced, as these dolls usually have paperweight eyes. His outfit is newer made, but fits him well. It is not removeable without cutting it, therefore it was not possible to undress and inspect the body.
